Re: The Voyages of "The Hiawatha" [Hero Class] : GURPS Traveller
Dr. Chevalier is paying a visit to the campus and the cafeteria of Prometheus Medical School. She is looking forward to chatting with students and professors alike. She expects that on a newly settled world such as this many who teach medicine will also practice it. Apart from genuine curiosity about the medical life on the planet she will have an open ear for any information about what demand in medical products there could be in Vilani space.

Re: The Voyages of "The Hiawatha" [Hero Class] : GURPS Traveller
Dr. Chevalier is easily able to find medical colleagues and patients who are willing to discuss the matters in which she is interested. There is not too much idle chatter regarding Imperial medicine, however, as this subject is still a bit taboo in areas this near to Terra, given the recent war and everything. Still, Dr. Chevalier is able to ferret out some tidbits regarding rumored Vilani advances in the treatment of cancer, HIV, and K'kree Blue Fever. (Dr. Chevalier is not certain just what may be involved with treating a K'kree, since that species is extremely rare in these environs. If she cares to pursue it, she can doubtless find more information than she even wants to know in the Hiawatha's computer library.)

OOC: Are we still waiting on Chief O'Donnell to work his magic with the cargo? I guess that's what we're waiting for? Dr. Chevalier have more to do? What about Commander Singh? Chief Kwabena? Senior Chief Wu? Captain Eul?

Re: The Voyages of "The Hiawatha" [Hero Class] : GURPS Traveller
OOC: Sorry. Finally in my apartment. Aiming for a good 30 to 45 minute online session this evening. However, all that remains for O'Donnell is accounting work. It can be done out of cycle with the rest of the game. I'll write up something for Moon too, but he's spent most of his time exhausted. He sleeps worse on-planet than he does in space.
OOC: O'Donnell will take whatever extra time is necessary to guarantee success on the freight handling rolls in the interest of saving time in moving the game forward (I'm too time-constrained today to get to invisiblecastle). O'Donnell watched as the last of the supplies were loaded and the hydrogen fuel tanks were topped off. "Captain, loading procedures are completed. We are ready to depart." Captain Moon activated the comm. "Prometheus Downport Tower, this is Hiawatha requesting clearance to take off along listed flight plan Papa-Oscar-5-2-9. We are outbound for 100D limit and onward to the Bernard's Star." "Hiawatha. this is Prometheus Tower. You are cleared to takeoff and proceed along orbital vector November-3-2. Be advised, there are 4 local heavies tagged PAL341, PAL342, PAL343, and PAL344 crossing at Angels 30 and 15 miles south of your outbound vector. Sqwuak code is 5-3-1-2." "Roger, Tower. This is Hiawatha. We have the local traffic on screen and are proceeding with takeoff." With a low thrumbbing, the contragrav units lifted the laden Hero and pushed them towards orbit. Several minutes later, Moon checked the altitude reading and sensors. He could see the 4 airliners to the south. Though they used contragrav propulsion, their primitive pressure hulls could not withstand vacuum. "Tower, this is Hiawatha. We are passing the traffic at Angels 30." "Roger, Hiawatha. Contact Orbital Control on 9-9-7 when passing Angels 40. Safe travels." "Roger, Hiawatha changing to Orbital Control on 9-9-7. Thank you and have the good day!" Re: The Voyages of "The Hiawatha" [Hero Class] : GURPS Traveller
The Hiawatha makes good time along the atmospheric lanes of Prometheus, and soon enough is swallowed up once again by the all-consuming blackness of the void of space as she powers out to the 100d limit and all indications are that she will make a clean jump, headed for [1926] Barnard. But wait! When the Hiawatha maneuvers near the Up-Port, it suddenly occurs to the crew that they didn't fuel-up while planetside. That will need to be done before jump can be made, either by taking on fuel at the Up-Port for a premium price, or by skimming a gas giant for unrefined fuel, which has increased risk for a misjump.

"Damn, they're charging us the double!" Moon groaned angrily.
"Well, Captain, we have enough left over. We spent most of our money on some new modular containers to hold the wood, but we have just under 200,000 Credits. We need to be more attentive next time though." O'Donnell spoke up, looking from his terminal. "Ok, we'll play it safe this time," He keyed the mike, "Roger, Prometheus Up Port. We request the docking berth and 40 dtons of fuel." |
