Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
I once asked RPK for a light-giving learned prayer:

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
That's the raw power cost; as a Learned Prayer it would be 1/5 that, or 4 points.
But given how severely those without low-light vision in a dungeon can get smacked down or impaired (can't use 2H weapons b/c you're holding a torch, etc), I thought it would be worth having, Though I haven't actually bought it yet. :-) One day.

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
I'd build it on the Accessory Perk, but perhaps limit it to TL appropriate things like torches or candles. I suppose there is no real call to do so, RAW, but I don't think the quasi-medieval magic user is going to even conceive of a Mag-Light. OTOH, I have a player with a Wizard who has employed Continual Light pumped full of FP to produce a makeshift flash-bang in a cave.

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
One of the reasons that I haven't picked this up is that mlangsdorf's mage can whip up a few torch-equivalent glowstones (or something similar) that basically do the job.
But note: this isn't torchlight. It's enough bright light to fill a 30' diameter circle with daylight, and it only starts dimming from the edge of that 10yd radius. This is considerably brighter than torchlight, and was designed to mimic the ability of a Paladin to call light. I suspect a point-source of relatively dim light, like a torch or candle, would indeed be less expensive.

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
I used the From Skills to Advantages article in Pyramid 44 to produce a Learned Prayer that duplicates the Great Healing Spell. I think that the point cost is a little low, to say the least. It is a heck of a deal compared to Lay on Hands (Enhanced). It doesn't cure disease, but my feeling is still that it should be more expensive. Note that although I applied Charm, I still built in Magery 3 in converting the Spell to an Advantage. I invite critique.
Great Healing-Style Prayer Minimum Reaction: Good Learned Prerequisite: Divine Favor 9 Learned Prayer Cost: 10 This Learned Prayer mimics the Great Healing Spell from Magic, page 91. It differs in that the Fatigue required is only 10. The ability can only be used on a subject once per day, but restores all missing HP. Statistics: Great Healing Spell (as Advantage, per Pyramid 44:17; Charm [1] + Magery 3 (one spell Magery, -80%) [7] + Spell (VH) [8] = [16]) (Cosmic, no die roll required, +100%; Divine, -10%, Reduced Fatigue Cost 10, +200%) [47] |

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
You can the "Missile Shield" and "Reverse Missiles" spells as advantages by starting with Control Space 10 and applying appropriate modifiers. Assuming a base cost of 40 per level and a total modifier of -80%, it'd require Divine Favor 11 ... and have a final cost of [16] as a learned prayer.
(10 * 40 * (1 - 0.8) = 80. Divine Favor 11- is [90]. 80 / 5 = 16.) |

Re: Learned Prayers standing in for Clerical Spells
Nice!
I have another Learned Prayer that might serve to stand in for the Shield Spell. It provides no DB, but DR 10 is pretty nice! Shield of Faith Minimum Reaction: Good Learned Prerequisite: Divine Favor 8 Learned Prayer Cost: 9 This Prayer protects the paragon from frontal attacks, applying DR before the attack reaches armor, eyes, etc. Statistics: Damage Resistance 10 (Divine, -10%; Directional, front, -20%, Force Field +20%) [45] |
