Re: [DF] What Powers Should Clerics Not Get?
It's more like looking on a war god as being like a weaving or farming god. You don't pray to a war god to avert bad war. You pray to them to help do it well. So yeah, zaps aren't what a war god cleric would do unless he was a war/storm god like Thor. He'd do buffs, fear spells, divinations that sort of thing.

Too detailed for DF, but Thor actually had a lot of credibility as an agriculture god. Turns out rain are needed for good crops...

Re: [DF] What Powers Should Clerics Not Get?
Never mind that the strict categorizing of a Gods niche is often rather exaggerated in fantasy literature, especially considering that quite often a few gods out of a given pantheon were revered almost monotheistically somewhere before (or even at the same time). The Greek Dodekatheon didnt' arise out of nothing…
I like quabbling families and forced cooperations, not an amalgamation of strictly defined "spheres". This gets especially silly when you've got worlds where the divinities clearly came from different cultures/races/eras, but still somehow manage to have a strict distribution of tasks… (And that this isn't just something ascribed to them by the believers) |
