Excited to begin preliminary distribution of what I call "pre-final" PDFs for the Four Perilous Journeys Kickstarter. These five (bonus!) short setting/adventures for Steve Jackson Games' The Fantasy Trip (under license) are the first third-party product for the re-energized line since the Legacy Edition exploded all over Kickstarter with a hugely successful campaign.

I'm quite pleased with how they're turning out . . . and pre-orders on Backerkit remain open until the files go to print in about a month.

This may be a bit spoiler-y. I'm trying not to reveal too much of the plot.

I was just reviewing the Pirate King PDF. It's a fun story and looks to be a good adventure. I had a little trouble with the flow of events, as what looks to me like the finale -- the fight with the blob -- comes before the area description of the pirate town, but I think I have a handle on it now.

This is exciting. Thanks for the early look at the materials!

That's partly because you can ignore that part and run for the hills if you want. Or stumble onto it immediately without even hitting the town. We felt it was better to put it there then in the end.

It's win/win. Feedback like this (and the error checking) is extremely useful, and showing the backers that yes, the project really is THAT close to being finished is good for everyone.

All five of the adventure PDFs for the Four Perilous Journeys kickstarter were just sent to all backers with fresh PDFs. The Counter art PDF file was reformatted for more-friendly printing. All PDFs that were ordered as add-ons (Dungeon Fantasy RPG supplements, Dragon Heresy, etc) have been sent out.

The only PDF not yet in backers' hands is the Decks-of-Destiny-style NPC/Monster card deck. That's my #1 priority to get into PDF, get it approved by SJG, then into backers' hands. Then manufacture of all physical rewards will begin.

All PDF Rewards Delivered

This morning, I received final ship approval for the NPC and Creature cards, and sent the PDF file to all backers who selected to receive it.

This means it's time to procure all of the physical rewards. I will be ordering the color counter tiles and also the actual card decks today, and having them shipped to their destinations - Studio 2 for US orders, and Kixto in the UK for international ones.

The printer files of the adventures were downloaded a day or so ago, and I'm still waiting for notification that they've passed pre-press. That's not behind schedule, so to speak, it's part of the four week printing process.

So, here's where I think we are:
  • September: Printing of books, counters and cards
  • October: International shipments commence and many will arrive during the month of October. The usual happenstance is a month on the water getting the books to the USA, so October will see all required goods arrive at Studio 2.
  • November: US Shipping. In many cases I cannot use media mail; this is expensive, but (good for you) faster.

If things go perfectly to plan (ha ha ha), deliveries of all products will be on time for international backers, and maybe two weeks behind the October schedule for the USA.

I hope you enjoy your card decks. I think they're fun.

There were some hiccups with EU delivery of card decks and counter tiles, but these have been resolved.

The books have begun printing and will be ready to ship on October 4.

Two shipments will depart from Latvia. Roughly 100 each of five books to the UK, where they will meet up with roughly 40 copies each of NPC Card Decks and Counter Tiles. That should be on or before October 11. Shipment would commence the following week, and books will arrive within the week (UK), or up to 6-8 weeks later for other places.

For the USA, books will ship directly to the USA, and the cards and counters will already be there. The books will hopefully arrive the first week in November, and then by the end of November all packages will be in hand.

So: things firming up.
