Default The floating nose and the potion of halitosis

I was playing a game the other night. I was a level 9 and so was one of my opponents and I was an elf. My opponent kicked down a door and it was the floating nose. I had the potion of halitosis. I also had the take me take me card. So I played the take me take me since I was an elf and the threw the potion. The end. Shared victory but at least I won too! But here’s the question. My opponent wondered how that would work if he decided he wanted to bribe the nose instead (which he didn’t want to but it’s the what if) He says that if he decides to bribe it then there is no combat rendering the potion useless. And how much time needs to pass to let the opponent decide what they’re doing?

If you threw the potion before he could decide to bribe the Nose, that's it - game over.
