Default GURPS GCA Kickstarter

I'm a big fan of GCA (and it's predecessors for that matter)

How fantastic would it be if GCA was updated and made functional cross platform including modern devices such as Android and iOS tablets?

It just seemed like something that should happen and I think Kickstarter is the way to do it.

That's my idea.

To the drawbacks slow and crashy, add tiny and keyboardless. I don't think i'd like it, but i'd pledge $10 in hopefulness.

Erm. Shouldn't you ask the person who wrote said program if they are able and willing to do this first? (... with strong emphasis on the able and the willing bits of that question.)

The person who is writing (present tense) the program, not past tense? Who's actually writing a whole new version (rewrite), present tense, not just maintenance patches? :)

I actually wonder how complicated (and how slow/fast) the new version will be. And how cross-platformy. The current version pre-dates .NET, right?

Yes, the current version is pre .NET; the new version is .NET and performance enhancements are one of the goals

Good, because I've always been disappointed by how slow GCA is!

A smartphone version makes no sense for character creation, but might be useful for looking up the stats of already created characters. Tablets seem to me to make more sense, since the bigger screen makes for a usable interface.

If he makes it a Metro app, I'm buying the Surface RT. :P

Since he's making a .NET version, I think that a tablet version of it seems unlikely. Unless he makes it work on the Surface. Which I really hope is the case. just one more good reason to buy a Surface.

Meh.

TBH, I've been using other resources ever since SJ backed off his promise to have it work for the MAC (and no I do *not* count an emulator as "on the MAC).

That being said, I would think that tablet using RP gamers would be such a niche of a niche market that it couldn't really be worth it in terms of time and money, but I may well be mistaken.
