Default Blackjack vs. brass knuckles?

Is there any benefit to the blackjack over brass knuckles? The only thing I can think of is that you can free your hand of a blackjack easier (to avoid a manual dexterity penalty if you suddenly need to grab something, or to toss it into the bushes when the cops show up). Otherwise, it seems like just a heavier and more expensive way to get the +1 to a punch.

Basically, you said it : it doesn't give you bad grip, and is easier to discard.

It is also easier to improvize. Just wrap some leather or rope around a piece of lead (or anything heavy.)

The look is also more "neutral", which can be a factor.

A blackjack leave less visible damage (bruised or torn flesh) than brass-knuckles. (MA p213)

If coming with a laniard, it may be used as a kind of flail. (Life-Preserver, MA p219)

It's also easy to conceal, by keeping the 'makings' separate and putting it together when you need it or by having it look like something else.

For example, leather workboots with padded ankle support where the 'padding' can be removed and rolled together into a leather cosh as long as your hand and filled with 1/2 lb. of powdered lead.

Another is a leather bag and a handful of loose coins. Coins in bag, strap the end of the bag to make a good lump, that's a cosh.

Brass knuckes don't look like anything but brass knuckles.

A padloc/combination lock or bicycle lock on a backpack, or a bandanna and a lock.

Yup. You even dress a bit punk and have a set of smaller 'decorative' locks you can put in the cloth bag you're using as a neckerchief. With an appropriate belt you can use these locks as sling bullets as well. :P
