Party failed a Stealth check v's a wolf in it's den.
I'd take that as neither of the cases in the RAW or Kromm's reply.
And, if you fluff your stealth, doesn't the other guy have to notice anyway? (Quick Contest). Is that Per check at a penalty for not being alert?

Assuming the wolf noticed the stumbling hunter, the wolf springing out to attack a hunting party seems to fit RAW, and Kromm's, case #2 so it's moot.

And even if it fails, the hunters just get closer, not all the way in: "15yds".

I don't think it is in the text. As Agramer says it is logical and seems obvious now but I didn't manage to deduce it from the rules as written. I've been confused by hidden people surprising others before, looked in the rules and found no explicit answer.
