Wizards staff / spear
I'm pretty sure Wizards are allowed two handed clubs as a staff. And surely a staff staff is fine too. They can also have silver daggers, even swords.
So what's the logic that says a wizard's staff cannot be a spear? I mean - its a long bit of wood with a 'silver dagger' on the end - what's not to like? :) |

According to Decks of Destiny, spear heads are enchanted. You could put a spearhead on your staff but this would negate all of the advantages of the staff.
Or you could have a spear of solid silver that weighed 15 pounds and therefore cost $3000

The staff description only says "common forms" include weapons like swords and daggers, so, as far as I can tell, there is nothing to say that a spear can't be a staff.

I wouldn't allow it, but I like staffish staffs and not daggers, swords or spears. This time of year, I'd allow a pine sapling. As others have pointed out, my own prejudices ignore a lot of the folklore, like athames. If one really wanted to push a unique character who embraced both technology and magic and hence used an arquebus as a staff, I think I'd genuinely consider it just for the novelty of it. But that would be a one-off. |

Personally, I dislike the idea of metal 'staves' (or metal on staves) entirely. I limit this particular type of arcane foci to organic materials in my campaign.
For a really out-of-the-box idea, try a HEARTBOW.

It should be allowed, but I am not sure it is a good idea. Keep in mind you'll need to learn the weapon talent for it if you want to use your spear effectively. Which will set you back 4 skill points (same goes for sword staffs). I'd prefer the quarterstaff staff it does 1 more damage than a spear and only cost 2 skill points to learn.
