Default Multiplayer Turn Timer

So in my current ranked game, the timer ran out on my opponent's turn and rather than autoskipping it or something else you would expect, it is now at negative forty minutes and counting. What exactly is the timer for?

I asked the same question on the Steam forum - I didn't get an explanation of why it's there, but they did say that it's not currently behaving as intended.

FWIW, when I finally exited to main menu it gave me the victory.

Do you mean you were awarded a win without actually finishing the game up?

Yes, because I wasn't going to sit there for hours waiting for some guy who was clearly AFK to actually take his turn.

As I understand it, desired behavior is "when opponent's timer runs out, you get the victory." Auroch comment?

That would be great, but then the victory screen really ought to appear, rather than having the timer run negative for no reason.

That's pretty harsh. How does that apply to async play (that might be a day or more in-between turns)? Does the counter stop if they go offline? What determines how it should behave? I thought I read somewhere that the AI would take over to move things along at some point.

I think we need a clear definition of how all async/offline play works.

We also need a clear understanding of what the expectation is (and what the time limits are) around AWOL players.

Or at least a chat function letting you warn opponents you're going to be AFK.

I left Bounder hanging for a bit while I picked burrs out of my boy's feet (he decided to go outside barefoot).

Ranked play doesn't seem to support ansync (which is a feature, IMO). The time limit is 30 minutes.
