Default Partial Damage Resistance

Here is my problem. I am building some drider type villains. They have chitin on the spider portion of their bodies. When I add partial DR to the legs and add another DR to the groin, GCA takes the DR away from the latter location and it is reflected on the character sheet that way.

It seems that GCA is written to apply a blanket DR to all hit locations and then takes away DR from locations not covered. How do I get GCA to reflect DR in multiple hit locations without taking DR away from locations not covered.

DR itself is indeed a big blanket coverage, using the DR attribute. When you apply Partial to it, it reduces the blanket amount by the amount of the DR advantage to which you just applied Partial, because clearly that's not part of the blanket.

To be able to apply specialty DR like this, you currently have to take a couple of additional steps, because GCA wasn't originally designed with this in mind.

First off, you need to be sure that each of your Partial DR advantages is a separate trait (that is, each one with a different value must be a different item in the trait listing). It will also be helpful later if you add a name extension to each one specifying the area it covers.

Next, select the trait and click on the Edit button, then the Full Edit Window button, then the Advanced... button.

Click on the Add Tag button. Enter dr in the Tag field, and the value of the total DR for this trait in the Tag Value field, then click OK. You'll see dr appear in the tag listing with the value. Note: You can't use math expressions because dr() isn't math-enabled, so you need to enter the total value yourself, and update it later if you change the level of the trait.

Click on the Add Tag button again. Enter location in the Tag field. For the Tag Value you'll want to enter the location name that GCA recognizes for the kind of coverage you want*. For legs, you can enter legs, for groin you can enter groin, etc. After that, click OK, and location will appear in the tag listing.

Click OK on each window until you're back to the main GCA window.

Click on the Protection icon on the toolbar, or select Protection from the View menu. Click on the Apply Armor tab. Your Damage Resistance traits will now display here, and you can click on the check boxes to apply them to the character, and thereby apply the partial DR coverage to the appropriate areas of the character. NOTE: the paper doll will not look correct for your driders, of course, but at least it'll give some representation of your coverage.

That should do it. (If you change values or locations for the DR traits, you'll need to go to Apply Armor again, and un-check then re-check the DR traits, to recalculate coverage values.)

NOW, if that's not the answer you wanted, you'll need to tell me exactly what you're actually after, and what character sheet you're printing with.

* You can see the full list of available locations in the Protection window. Those that will be displayed on the paper doll are shown in the paper doll display, and the headings are what you need to use in the location() tag.

Nope that should do it. I appreciate the help. Now my super villains minions will have the chitinous lower bodies they are supposed to have
