Default Hans Rancke-Madsen has passed away

It has been announced that Hans Rancke has passed away on the 9th of October. I don't know any more details than the announcement below.

To Absent friends...

There is an announcement/remembrance at the Citizen's of the Imperium site

I am shocked and deeply saddened by this loss. I have been a fan of Hans over the years, from the TML to the various forums for Traveller today, always on the lookout for his messages. No one was more knowledgable of Traveller canon, certainly no one was more outspoken. I always appreciated his insights, and I know the Traveller community is diminished by his loss.

That's sad news. He and I argued a lot, but he was unfailingly reasonable and courteous, and I learned things from him. And he was younger than I am, not yet 60, which strikes me as tragically young. I'll miss him here.

I only knew Hans through Traveller discussion boards, and a brief effort to collaborate via e-mail on a couple of JTAS articles (one mine, one his). But I knew him that way for so long that I thought of him as a friend.

If I ever get around to finishing my JTAS article (presumably for Mongoose, now that JTAS is on its way out), I'll ask that a few words in memory of Hans appear with the article.
