Subrace Question
I am trying to put together a fantasy game and decided to make halflings and gnomes subraces of humans, elves, and dwarves.
Human+Elf = Half-Elf. Human+Dwarf = Halfling/Hobbit Elf+Dwarf = Gnome. However, I am interested in putting in orcs as well, but I don't know what would result from certain breeding. Orc+Human = Half-Orc. Orc+Elf = ?? (Could just go LOTR style and call them Uruks) Orc+Dwarf = ?? I'm going to assume that an orc+elf would result in a more intelligent and visually appealing orc, while an orc+dwarf would result in a terrifying foe. I'm not going to bother with Subraces mixing together and I won't be assigning them names. The genetic change would be so insignificant that maybe a stat or two would change by one. Re: Subrace Question
I think I'll just have Orc+Dwarf be an Orog (From D&D) and Orc+Elf be an Uruk (LotR). I could add even more races, but I can't really think of any.

And Human + Orc should be Uruk-hai*. Orc + Elf = Black Elf? (ala Black Orc). Maybe 'Abomination'? Unless your Elves and Orcs get along, I don't see them crossing and allowing the hybrid babies to live. Orc + Dwarf = Stunty * from the movies, the books did not name them differently aside from calling the Men/Orc hybrid 'Isengard Orcs'. |

Re: Subrace Question
Or, as a bit of a mind-screw: Orc + Elf = Human

Re: Subrace Question
I would think that elves would definitely see Orc/elves as abominations. I'll probably have them be practically superhuman in abilities, but also be really rare since they usually aren't allowed to live.

Re: Subrace Question
Even orcs wouldn't like them, but they would probably be strong/smart/dexterous enough to prove themselves as leaders.

Re: Subrace Question
I was going off the fact Trolls ARE elves in many lores. Just twisted elves. Makes sense an Orc would do it, but yeah, that's just my take. I don't feel that half necessarily need be an in between of two races.

Re: Subrace Question
Or even Elf + Human = Orc.
Orcs are of course corrupted elves, but what corrupts them is part human parentage. That's why changlings are monstrous. After an elf-woman abducts a young man as her plaything and gets pregnant, she gives birth to a nasty, orcish infant. Since elves are capricious and amoral, but legalistic after a fashion, she reasons that since a human man gave her an imperfect baby, it is her right to trade it for a better human baby. Most of the orcs/changelings don't survive, but the few who do are very tough, and they pass that on, so their offspring are strongly orcish, no matter who they breed with. There would still be a detectable orcish look in someone who's great grandparent was an orc. |
