Yup, just one more issue (along with A4 paper) caused by our Failure to Convert in the 70s. :(

For a very long time Carta Mundi was the printer for CCGs (not just MTG), leading to some really funky misprints like MTG cards with Wyvern backs. (I wish I still had mine :( )

CCG and Board Game cards have sizes that run all over the place. Some of this is caused by printing houses using only either Metric or Imperial and some of it is caused by the desire to have cards that stand out from other cards. Some game makers do this to keep you from accidentally shuffling two different types of decks together during a game (say dungeons/portals vs treasure/doors), other game makers do it just to make their cards stand out from other games, and a third type of game makers do it just because of cost (smaller cards cost less, or they got a deal on a certain size card from the printer).

ALL of this is why I'm currently interested in knowing where SJ Games is going with card sizes and stock for Car Wars. It would be nice to be able to pre order (and decorate) some sleeving and storage solutions while waiting for the game. Then we can have a headstart when it arrives.

With a current stated goal of "release in 2019 or 2020", you've got a couple years of lead time to figure things out. I wouldn't be too concerned at present.

Sorry, some of us don't have anything better to be concerned about until then.

Don't be sorry; I just try to stay away from early speculation in general, much less in such detail. :)

FWIW, if cards are a major part of the game I'd like them in standard sizes but properly cut to fit card sleeves. At times I have used double-sleeved cards, which requires slightly smaller cuts than you're describing in the Munchkin CCG.

You are correct. It would be very difficult to double sleeve Munchkin CCG.

I'm not sure what sleeves you have experience with, but the Standard size Dragon Shield sleeves have very little spare room. I would be concerned about splitting them due to sleeves trying to enter other sleeves during shuffling.

FFG sleeves are normally a bit large. They are just right for Munchkin CCG.

I usually use Dragon Shield for decks that require shuffling (ccgs / living cgs) and FFG for cards that don't (X-Wing Pilots / War Machine & Malifaux & Guild Ball models). FFG would be my default for Car Wars cards if they continue in the direction they seem to be heading.

Coming at this from a miniatures player viewpoint. IF the cards are used anything like how X-Wing or Guild Ball uses cards Double Sleeving might not be needed.

Local players usually store sleeved cards in binder pages. Since the cards do not get shuffled players often have a smaller binder page for the cards they are using during a game. Effectively double sleeving them by having them in sleeves and pages.

Apparently, the playing card industry has thoroughly metricized. Even casino cards are now printed metric, with approximate imperial measurements given.

Practical upshot as far as Car Wars is concerned: Kickstarter to launch in 2018, delivery of the game to backers in 2019-2020.

At least SJG has a history of delivering on their kickstarters. Unlike a certain company I could GLLXXGGHE.

[Mod edit: Please do not flame other companies on our forums. It is a bad look.]

Wow - its been a while since been on the forum and read this thread. This long story has ended with Carwars KS coming out (hopefully ) in 2018.

I'm Keen :) Looking forward to the next bit of news. I have half a mind to start making some HO arena scenery in advance. Or look at making a HO arena mat. - once side badlands, other arena?

I've been collecting ho scale 20ft and 40ft shipping containers. I think some of these, scattered about will make interesting blocking terrain. I even found one that is a liquidsmall tank in a frame to use as a objective.
