Default Mood Music

Monica Valentinelli presented some mood music in the recent daily illuminator. Since I love having music played in the background during my sessions, this was an excellent read for me.

I'd like to add to the list by providing a link to the Vault Archives. The composer of the original Fallout Soundtrack, Mark Morgan, released the soundtrack for Fallout 1 in a digital remastered edition for free.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the Vault Archives record.

Have fun!

That was a nice soundtrack. Nothng ear-catching and epic, but very low-key almost "ambient". I think it can be used for a lot of things, and I'll be sure to download it soon.

Music is a huge part of creating atmosphere for me in a game. Glad I could offer some new suggestions for folks!

We find that having music playing all the time during a game session, even at low volume, can be distracting. But we like a short background theme while the GM introduces an adventure or, in the following sessions, while he makes the where-were-we? summary. It helps a lot in setting the tone.

I particularly liked the pointer to Bailey Records, which I didn't know. A by-genre list? That's clever!

I tend to build individual play lists for the campaign I am currently running, usually a 'score' with instrumentals and a 'soundtrack' with regular ol songs. Also, occasionally I'll build a play list for a given story arc or game session. Music is pretty important for my gamers, in one game one of my players has Total Amnesia and flashbacks, I let the player know he's about to have a flashback by playing a specific song, the song that is playing in his flashback...

I was rather happy with the Nox Arcana website btw, so thanks M.
