Need Quick Metal Armor Clarification
Did a search on the threads and couldn't find this particular question. I'm coming back to Car Wars from a very long absence and want to get a clarification on the exact rules for metal armor.
"If the damage rolled is greater than the value of metal armor at the location hit, damage in excess of the armor value penetrates the armor to affect internal components. In addition, every 6 rolled on a damage die reduces the value of the armor by 1 point. Burst-effect weapons reduce the DP by 1 point for every 5 or 6 rolled on a damage die. The loss of metal armor is taken after any damage has penetrated the armor." So, reading this it makes it seem that first, the armor must be penetrated and then if the armor is penetrated, any 6's rolled reduce the value of the armor by 1. Is this the case or do they mean to say that whether the armor is penetrated or not, any 6's rolled reduce the value by 1? So if I have 6 points of metal armor on my side and am hit by an MG for its max damage of 6, do I reduce the armor value or not? |

Re: Need Quick Metal Armor Clarification
Metal armor doesn't have to be penetrated to be blown off. Those are two separate sentences (see below).
8 points of metal armor hit by a MG who rolls a '6' knocks off a point of metal. There's whole builds built around stripping metal this way. Like the VGII chopper with 4 front firing VFRP's. Quote:

Re: Need Quick Metal Armor Clarification
We'll use what was commonplace back'n'th'day: A RR vs. 10 pts. of Metal.
Breaking it down line-by-line: Quote:
If the RR rolled 10 or fewer points of damage, no points penetrate. Quote:
The two damage d6s are taken separately -- if one comes up "5" or "6", one point comes off; if both dice come of "5" or "6", two points come off. Quote:
Example 1: The damage dice come up "5" and "6". This is a total of 11; [11 - 10 =] 1 point of damage penetrates. Then, as both dice came up "5" or "6", two points of Metal are removed; the Metal armor value is now [10 - 2 =] 8. Example 2: The damage dice come up "5" and "5". Total 10; [10 - 10 =] 0 points penetrate. Then, as both dice came up "5" or "6", two points of Metal are removed; the Metal armor value is now [10 - 2 =] 8. Example 3: The damage dice come up "5" and "4". Total 9; [9 - 10 = -1;] 0 points penetrate. Then, as one die came up "5" or "6", one point of Metal is removed; the Metal armor value is now [10 - 1 =] 9. Example 4: The damage dice come up "4" and "4". Total 8; [8 - 10 = -2;] 0 points penetrate. Then, as neither dice came up "5" or "6", 0 points of Metal are removed; the Metal armor value remains 10. (Mockingly saying "TINK" to the firer is at the discretion of the target. :) )

Re: Need Quick Metal Armor Clarification
Keep in mind too that if you're using composite armor (metal armor with a layer of plastic armor beneath) that damage in excess of the metal is applied to the plastic armor until that is destroyed, then internal components take damage.
That rule for damage is only for weapons fire too - metal behaves differently in collisions, with each point of metal absorbing 3 points of damage, with the caveat that no more than half of the current metal armor can be destroyed in a particular collision. (For example a car with 10 metal gets into a 32 point collision, the metal absorbs 30 of the points, is reduced to 5 points of metal, and 2 points get past the metal armor.)

Great. That answers that question then. Thanks for all the help and clarifications.
