Body Armour
Does anyone have any idea how to make some modern body armours in 'Cutting Edge Armor' (Pyramid #3-85) terms?
I'm wondering about vests like the US Armor from the Enforcer line, like whatever the CBP is using. I don't know whether new agents in 2014 got issued a Enforcer 6000/Enforcer 5000/Enforcer XP or something else. What materials in the real-world are Ballistic Polymer and Improved Ballistic Polymer, respectively? Spectra Shield and Dyneema fall under Ballistic Polymer, but I don't know about others. What real-world materials are Improved Kevlar?

Drug trials and cutting-edge pharmacology
What skills does a research scientist involved in the development of new nootropic drugs require, in addition to Pharmacy (Synthetic)?

Take the Detect Lies as humor if you like but I'm serious about the Statistics. There is no field of Mathematics which allegedly trained professionals screw up as often as Statistics. So it's possible he might not have it but I suspect he needs it.

He's got an MD and a PhD in psychology. Extreme Brainwashing, Psychology (Experimental), Physician, Pharmacy (Synthetic) and Research. High Biology (Biochemistry) and Physiology (Human). Also has Electronics Operation and Repair for (Medical) and (Scientific) specialities at skill 16 and Chemistry at skill 16. Surgery at skill 17, but he's not supposed to cut brains open, pretty please. I have now consulted with his player and added Mathematics (Statistics) at skill 16. Note that having been involved in the development of nootropic drugs that actually work is good for Higher TL (Limited: Pharmacology -60%) [2] for the character. Of course, the dramatic effects being noticed among the former Project Jade Serenity test subjects some 17 years after the closing of the Project might not have much to do with the specific nootropic or psychoactive drugs used there. The effects may instead result from some of the steroids or other performance-enhancing substances or treatments tested there. Or the effects may not be scientifically explainable, with alchemy or magic being closer to the truth than science. In any event, 'common' effects that have been discovered among those former Project Jade Serenity subjects who show dramatic changes include: Absolute Direction or 3D Sense (Super -10%) [5] to [14] Acute (Sense) +1 to +5 (Super -10%) [2] to [9] Catfall (Super -10%) [9] Combat Reflexes (Super -10%) [14] Danger Sense (w/ or w/o Hypersensory -50%, Super -10%) [6] to [14] Discriminitory (Sense) (Super -10%) [5] to [14] Eidetic or Photographic Memory (Super -10%) [5] to [9] Enhanced Dodge +1 to +2 (Super -10%) [14] to [27] Enhanced Parry (All) +1 to +2 (Super -10%) [9] to [18] Enhanced Time Sense (Super -10%) [41] Extra ST +1 to +12 (Super -10%) [9] to [108] Extra DX +1 to +4 (Super -10%) [18] to [72] Extra IQ +1 to +2 (Super -10%) [18] to [36] Extra HT +1 to +4 (Super -10%) [9] to [36] Extra HP +1 to +12 (Massless +0%, Super -10%) [2] to [22] Extra Basic Speed +0.25 to +2.00 (Super -10%) [5] to [36] Extra Per +1 to +5 (Super -10%) [5] to [23] Extra Will +1 to +2 (Super -10%) [5] to [9] Extra FP +1 to +9 (Super -10%) [3] to [25] Extra Attack 1 ((Super -10%) [23] Fit or Very Fit (Super -10%) [5] to [14] Flexibility or Double-Jointed [5] to [14] High Manual DX 1-4 (Super -10%) [5] to [18] High Pain Threshold (Super -10%) [9] Longevity, Extended Lifespan or possibly Unaging (Super -10%) [2] to [14] Night Vision 1-9 (Super -10%) [1] to [9] Parabolic Hearing 1-3 (Super -10%) [4] to [11] Perfect Balance (Super -10%) [14] Peripheral Vision (Super -10%) [14] Rapid Healing or Very Rapid Healing (Super -10%) [5] to [14] Sensitivity or Empathy (w/ or w/o Hypersensory -50%, Super -10%) [2] to [14] Super Jump 1-2 (Super -10%) [9] to [18] Talents (various) 1-4 (Super -10%) [5] to [54] No test subject has demonstrated all of these, but glowing health, rapid recovery and extended period at physical peak or even total cessation of degenerative effects of aging, are pretty common to most of the surviving individuals. Some of these powers include Biological (Passive), as well, as well as other Limitations related to biological issues. Other sensory enhancements are possible, but rarer and may represent learning to use sensory organs in different ways through extraordinary conscious control of them.

Re: [Modern Firepower] Technothriller gear for secret DHS team in 2017
Your black ops guys need some kind of suppressed, subsonic .300 BLK carbines to complete their arsenal. Doug did some statting on his blog, but AFAIK, there are no official GURPS stats for .300 AAC/BLK.

And how heavy are they and what kind of threats are they rated for? Does Improved Ballistic Polymer (TL8) exist right now or is it meant to represent late-TL8 improvements that are not commercially available as of now?

A lot of this is stuff that you can research pretty easily on the internet, because most of these things are available on markets. Essentially though most current production body armor is either aramid (mainly KM2 Kevlar), Dyneema, or Spectra.
Rifle resistant armor adds ceramic plates, such as SAPI. Last edited by sir_pudding; 02-10-2017 at 06:48 PM. |

Real military issue does, but if Improved Ballistic Polymer actually exists, it ought to be possible to make Flexible DR 18 armour that is proof against 5.56x45mm.

No such thing actually exists AFAICT; at least I am unaware of and unable to find commercial rifle-resistant armor without plates . Maybe Improved Ballistic Polymer is supposed to be Dragonscale which was included in High-Tech, despite turning out to probably be not very effective.
