Default Misses With Melee Spells

Does a Melee spell disappear if you miss your attack with it? I'm assuming it does, but the entry in Magic doesn't state it explicitly, so far as I can tell.

If I remember, it's that you charge the staff (or hand) with the spell cast turn, and it effects on the first hit with the charged up object.

Decided to look it up, page M11 near the bottom has a "you may try it again" so no, it doesn't discharge on miss (or when defended against), but if it fails to get through the resistance roll, you're out of luck.

Missile spells are a complete different story however... but I guess you didn't mention them, so why am I?

Ah ok, I see where I was confused. Several paragraphs earlier, it mentions that any attack with the hand/staff discharges the spell, with 'discharge' meaning that the spell goes off, not that it goes away. So you basically get to attack with the spell until you hit, or until you parry someone with that weapon. Neat.
