Why is Pyramid #3/103 is such a big file?
37 pages, but nearly the size of Characters and Campaigns combined? My tablet (admittedly, not a high end one) can't even open it.

The Map of Central Asia: Overview on p. 32 is a 57M bitmap, 10,800 by 4,800 pixels. (Most people don't seem to know how easy it is to extract images from PDFs.)

Do you know of a handy link that would let people know how to do this? If you know of one, I'm sure people would appreciate your help.

Re: Why is Pyramid #3/103 is such a big file?
I use pdfimages from the poppler utils. There's probably a port to Windows; I don't have to use commercial OSes these days.
PDF is basically a container format - one block says "object #27 is this image" and then in the block that defines page 19 it says "put object #27 at this location, this size". (I'm simplifying a lot. :) )

Not sure if this helps, but you can use Irfanview to convert .PDF's (one page or all pages) into individual .TIF pages pretty easily.

Re: Why is Pyramid #3/103 is such a big file?
There are two different things potentially going on here, each of which can be useful in the right situation.
(a) Take a PDF page (containing text, vector graphics, and/or bitmaps) and render it into a bitmap. (b) Extract an individual image from the PDF, and use just that bitmap. For example, I'm using some Pathfinder adventures at the moment where the basic dungeon plans are pretty bitmaps, but all the labels have been added separately in the PDF – which means that if I extract just the bitmap I have a tactical map I can add a hex-grid to and show to the players, without having to hide all the annotations.
