Carnage on SkyOne Starts May 6th
Sky One is airing six episodes of Carnage, a vehicular combat television series. I have not seen any vehicle statistics or arena maps posted yet that could be converted for Car Wars gaming.

Re: Carnage on SkyOne Starts May 6th
There was a TV show like this on late-night TV in the US back in the '90s.
(No -- it was *NOT* "_Junkyard Wars_".) It was filmed in what appeared to be a disused gravel pit. There were four-wheeled cars, as well as off-road motorcycle-sidecar rigs. Combat was by means of paintball markers. The show was, quite clearly, scripted; every episode ended with some sort of carefully-staged stunt (usually a car Reynolds-Ramping into a building, which would then "explode"). I never did get to see the beginning of the show, so I never have been able to find out what it was called; and being it was running at 11:30PM, it didn't have enough of a fan base that anyone's written a wiki about it.

Re: Carnage on SkyOne Starts May 6th
Discovery had a few episodes of a similar idea back around 2008 or so. In keeping with their programs of the time, half the show was building the vehicles - often with some stupid theme - and the other half was remote-controlled autoduelling, with machine guns and whatever gimmicks the teams came up with during the build phase. I think it had three or four episodes; the teams were too small, the themes were not interesting, and the remote control rigs were clearly not robust enough.

That looks amazing. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a way to see it stateside.
The photo of a rigged-up Mini Cooper shows promise, and mystery... why is there a plastic ice cream cone on the door? It’ll be fun for Car Wars as a game for this show to do well.

Re: Carnage on SkyOne Starts May 6th
Well, I liked the action, the car combat was fun and the arenas were interesting but the commentary got a bit annoying. I just fast-forwarded to the good bits. :-)
Not a bad show though, I thought it was a good cross between robot wars and scrapheap challenge (or junkyard wars for the non-brits). I'll watch the series, but only after recording them so I can fast forward again. Nice to see one vehicle had dropped weaponry... I think they need to expand on that idea! |
