Yes, if "Barrido" is regarded as unsuitable for translating Swing in this context, I think that "Golpe" could be the winner.

Commenting this contest of words fighting for the privilege of translating this GURPS term, I would say that "¡Golpe golpea fuerte!" (Strike strikes hard!) :)

I was curious about the Portuguese translation regarding this subject. Thank you.

Expressions similar to "Golpear en giro" were discussed here when Extrarius suggested "giro" / "gyration".

I would not mind having "Golpe de Acometida"->GdA and "Golpe de Volea"->GdV. Volea alone does not work, but in a composite form, it might be suitable. "Barrido" still works better.

"Barrido" sounds good to me.

I'd like to see GURPS Lite finally translated to Spanish, but it's taking a very long time . . . We'll see how it goes.

Maybe we could use more generic terms.

Thrust -> De empuje (Thrust)
Swing -> De palanca (lever)

These are "right" suggestions for translating the terms. However, in the GURPS context, they aren't exactly suitable. The issue would be the same as the one already mentioned regarding the term "lateral" for translating swing: Spanish language doesn't use such terms for combat nor violence (this is specially true for "palanca"), and BTW they could provoke some silly jokes (I'm looking specially to "empuje" here).

EDIT: I don't know what is your actual understanding of Spanish language . . . Who knows, it could be your first language. In any case, this is my opinion on the suggested terms.

Spanish is my first language. The thing is that "swing" and "thrust" are pretty generic and not specific of combat, so I thought that it should be the same in spanish.

You know we could make silly jokes about almost every possible translation.

Same here.

Right, these terms aren't combat specific terms per se, but the way GURPS uses them is combat specific. A translation must have that in account. OTOH, literal translations many times aren't the best choices.

My point was that not every translation is equally abusable.

Anyway, I think that SJG not releasing GURPS Lite in Spanish is due to reasons having little or nothing to do with the intrincacies of the translation of a term such as Swing.
