Default Turning cleric ability question

I was playing a game yesterday and came upon this situation.

Player Level 7 Cleric was fighting a Level 10 Undead. The player had a Warrior class card in hand. The player used Turning and discarded a card to get a +3 bonus so that the player was level 10. Then the player decided to stop being a Cleric and instead be a Warrior so that the player would win ties.

The argument was:
A) When the player ceased being a Cleric, the Turning ability was un-powered and no longer valid, so the player became a level 7 Warrior.
B) The player's discarded card is a constant representation of a +3 bonus as it powered the Turning ability. The player for that combat became a level 10 Warrior.

We decided to go with A. What is the correct decision?

The correct answer is B. If you've already paid for a bonus, you get to keep it.

We even covered it in the FAQ years ago (I'll quote the relevant bit below). It's a great place to find information if you need a quick answer.

A. Yes. If you quit being an Elf, you can no longer get a bonus from Elf-only items, and so on. You can never get the benefit of two Races or two Classes in one combat unless you have a special card that allows it. Powers driven by discards are an exception, however. If a Warrior had already discarded a card to get a +1 combat bonus, and then stopped being a Warrior, he would keep the bonus, but wouldn't be able to discard any more cards for the Warrior bonus. Yes, this rule can be used to the player's advantage. Hee hee.

Ah, shoot, I was reading the FAQ, but missed that one. Thank you very much for referencing it for me.

The problem, of course, is figuring out what constitutes a general case and a specific case. Turning and Berserking fall under that answer's general case, even though the berserking ability is called out specifically.
