Your favorite genres for pen&paper RPG
Dear fans of pen&paper RPGs, I want to create a series of adventures, and therefore I would like to know what are your favourite genres for playing pen&paper RPG.
I would be very happy if you could help me by filling a short survey on this topic here: http://freeonlinesurveys.com/s/zqbtyHsd Thanks a lot :-) |

Re: Your favorite genres for pen&paper RPG
I agree with Vicky. There's no spot there for those of us who like modern-day martial arts, espionage, or superhero action, just to name a few. I suppose modern-day urban fantasy/Monster Hunters would fall under "fantasy", but it's very distinct from the sword-and-sorcery pseudo-medieval fantasy in many respects.
"Historical Periods" also covers a wide swath: Old West, Victorian England, WWII, Age of Sail, Crusades, Roman Civil War, and Mycenaean Greece, just to name a few periods off the top of my head. Edit: okay, a later question enumerated them. Some of them are very specific ("Bohemia under the reign of..."), but still nothing there for "today", as in the post-Vietnam era.

Re: Your favorite genres for pen&paper RPG
I didn't see anything for "wainscot fantasy", either.
More importantly, the last three questions have no business being on a survey that doesn't also have a clear statement on how that data is going to be used. (In Canada, asking those questions without saying how you're going to use that data and abiding by what you say is illegal.)

Re: Your favorite genres for pen&paper RPG
I welcome all your suggestions, it is a great help for me.
The last three questions (gender, age and education) are not required. But it is not true they do not have anything to do with the topic itself - for example, one of the adventures is supposed to be more "female-friendly", therefore I ask gender. Anyhow, I highly appreciate all your feedback. Thanks a lot :-) |

Re: Your favorite genres for pen&paper RPG
You could use ALOT of genre additions as noted above, and you could stand to be more clear with the meaning of Motif. Do you mean Theme or Trope?
Your historical periods question doesnt actually go far enough AHEAD nor does it correlate well to sci-fi games. But I answered as best I can given the options available. Nymdok p.s. I recognize that a RPG survey that spans the breadth and Depth of RPG gaming and THEN having the nerve to post that on a GURPS board gets you high marks for bravery. |

Its exploring a very odd problem space... that said, I enjoyed the questions.
Particularly the historical periods one.

I must echo the call for the addition of Wainscot Fantasy, as a category. With the popularity of Harry Potter (among many other things), how could you leave that out? Also, you didn't include the superhero genre, at all, and that's a pretty huge oversight (it's not an RPG genre I enjoy, myself, although I do like the movies).
