Now this is a gameable event:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...assage-attempt

For a start, there's the name - for a haunted ship, HMS Terror is pretty hard to beat - and then there's the awesome Inuit stories about the ghosts of the dead sailors (though you have to read to the end of the article to find those).

Anyway, definitely an adventure here!

A plan to drain the Mediterranean. And a man who worked furiously to make it happen.

Great setting for a horror adventure. Particularly in winter, when it's dark all day, and blizzards can conveniently cut off all phone reception. That long access tunnel is just built to collapse at a crucial point in the plot, cutting off all connection to the outside world...

And this one is perfect for an Infinite Worlds campaign.

Nice!

I love how they ascribe all sorts of religious, ritual, and even economic purposes when the most obvious, "it's purty" was probably the biggest reason for its existence.

When fighting an elemental, impure quartz like flint just won't do. You need the pure stuff.

Oh man, that's awesome. 5000 year old crystal weapons. Those things probably have so much magic in them by now that a casual "bless you" in the room could set off a banestorm.

If I hadn't already sent my heroes to Tibet, I'd want to do something based on this story for my webcomic:

Quote:
In December of 1923, two unlikely travelers arrived in Darjeeling, India intent on finding what could not possibly exist: Shambhala, a kingdom located inside a hollow earth. Along them trailed Soviet spies, Western occultists and Mongolian rebels, all serving their own agendas. Even with so many eyes on them, their expedition still managed to disappear from the face of the earth for months; when they finally emerged, they had a fascinating story to tell and even more secrets to hide.
-- Why the Soviets Sponsored a Doomed Expedition to a Hollow Earth Kingdom from Atlas Obscura
