Yield of the tactical nukes in Orge
Is there an official rule on the yield of the tactical nukes used in Ogre in kilotons? I'm guessing it's not in megatons that would be a strategic nuke, right. Thanks.

Re: Yield of the tactical nukes in Orge
There is a table in GURPS Ogre. They are actually pretty low yield - starting from a few score or hundreds of tons if i remember. The trick is that they are essentially nuclear shaped charges to punch through BPC armor, not open air blasts - at least not until you get to cruise missiles.
Found it. For discussion of the nuclear weapons see pp. 106-108 in GURPS Ogre. Last edited by TexPoec; 08-12-2018 at 08:02 PM. Reason: Confirming a reference. |

Re: Yield of the tactical nukes in Orge
In my headcanon every shell is in the 5-15 kilotons range. But the only "official" source is GURPS Ogre, which nerfs them down to "reasonableness".
Pfft reasonableness. |

You may find this site of some interest to map yield & damage: https://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/
In Section 2 you can select low-yield tactical weapons, such as the B-61 Mod3s.

A 0.02 kt bomb (10 tons) still makes a crater 10 m wide, but I suspect they are rounding to the nearest 10. Maybe the near-miss for that is a SHVY's D result. |

Re: Yield of the tactical nukes in Orge
I always envisioned them as sort of being in the yield range of the M29 Davy Crockett - powerful enough to punch through armor, but not damaging enough to destroy whatever area you are trying to defend.

Re: Yield of the tactical nukes in Orge
Oh yea the Davie Crockett was INSANE. I think if it is possible they would have developed hafnium triggered weapons so it would be larger than any chemical ordinance but smaller than any nuke and it wouldn't have all of that nasty fallout.
