Cheating with a legal item
3. CHEAT can be played to make something that would normally be against the rules possible. If I have nothing in my hands can I play cheat on a 2 handed item to use it anyway even though I COULD use the 2 handed weapon?
The scenario that happened that made this an issue was that I had 5 hands and the card (Fiery hands I think) that gave you a +3 bonus for each empty hand you had. I then played 3 Handed sword (+10) with a cheat card and claimed I could use it aswell as still having my 5 hands empty getting a total of +25 bonus. My mate then claimed "well you can use the 3 handed weapon its not against the rules and therefore not a CHEAT" Last edited by Andrew Hackard; 07-18-2009 at 06:00 PM. |

Re: Cheating with a legal item
In this situation the card was played, but since the requirements were not met for the card to have an effect, wouldn't it simply fades to the discard pile?

Now, what if you cheated on the 3 Handed Sword BEFORE you obtained whatever it is that gives you extra hands? Would it still effectively be cheated on and take no hands, even though you have enough to use it? Or, say you cheated on the 3 Handed Sword because you're using another Big item, then you stop using that other Big item? On a similar note... If you have 5 hands with Fiery Arms, are using another Big item, and you cheat on the 3 Handed Sword... is ONLY the Big restriction cheated away because you have the number of open hands necessary, or does it also not take up any hands because, well, it's cheated on? |

Re: Cheating with a legal item
If you're Cheating an item, it's Cheated for any necessary purpose. But the Cheat card has to be legal to play in the first place.

Re: Cheating with a legal item
So, in this case, if you put the Army Helmet sideways and the Coat of Arms sideways (back to two hands) then cheat the three handed sword, then, put the Helmet and coat back on, would that be legal?

Re: Cheating with a legal item
Related question:
What happens to Cheat! card after the condition is fulfilled? For instance, a player plays Cheat! on an item he can't use because he isn't a certain class (say, fighter). He then becomes a fighter. Does the Cheat! stay with the item? Does it go to the discard? I'm pretty sure it doesn't go back to the hand, though. |

Re: Cheating with a legal item
The game is not so pedantic as to require you to remember why you were using Cheat! on an Item. It stays on the Item until you no longer own it.
As an extra bonus answer, once an Item has Cheat! on it, there are no restrictions to the player who owns it on using it. So, if something is Armor and Warrior-only, you can use Cheat! if you're not a Warrior and later, play a second piece of Armor, all because the type of Item it is doesn't matter for the purposes of you using it. There is no requirement to remember why the Item was cheated, and the conditions of playing Cheat! only matter when you play Cheat!. Last edited by MunchkinMan; 06-29-2010 at 08:41 AM. |
