Basic, at least, seems to imply that this occurs in societies where only a single form of rank utterly dominates, and, in medieval Europe, upper level clergy at least could certainly speak to knights and lords as equals without having Feudal Rank. EDIT: So as to be contributing to the thread: Thief: Either Social Stigma (Criminal Record) or an appropriate secret. Skill in Filch or Pickpocket optional, but encouraged if one wishes to play a competent thief.
