Re: Pre-Gen cards and Character sheet pads
I'm going to resurrect this one briefly to note that things like the "rumors" being published as part of the Kickstarter would be perfect subjects for cards. That, and things like plot twists, or random events, to me, would be excellent choices for cards that could be drawn by the GM when s/he's short of inspiration or time, or simply needs something to fill in the blank spot.
Basically, anything non-material; motivations, reactions, mysteries (and clues to them), and, as already mentioned, rumors and plot twists and things like that would be an excellent use of cards. Much better, to my mind, than swords, or equipment, or treasures. The non-material things don't even have to be fleshed out with a lot of text; simple two or three word statements (like "Exploding Chickens") would suffice to give the GM something to run with in the way of a rumor or plot twist or whatever. In fact, you could list six such statements on a single card (numbered 1-6, of course) and roll a die to see which one comes up... Lots of variety possible that way, with the minimum number of cards. (One hundred cards gives you 600 ideas -- 1200 if you use both sides of the card! You could color code one side red for "bad" things and one side blue for "good" things, as just one example off the top of my head.) Last edited by JLV; 08-09-2018 at 03:34 PM. |

Re: Pre-Gen cards and Character sheet pads
Honestly, I would much rather just have the pre-gens put on a web site. Let it be community driven. To paraphrase "The Band" ... "just take what you need and leave the rest ...".
I'm planning printing the Wizard (and maybe the Melee) character pad PDFs on 4x6 index cards, putting "valuable" ones that are vinyl sleeves and using them that way. No cool artwork, I know, but I'll personally sacrifice that for ideas from this highly diverse community. |

Re: Pre-Gen cards and Character sheet pads
I posted this in the alternatives to GM screen forum and then realised this was
more appropriate. If you're going to be using those pregenerated character cards then there'd be some benefit to having a card rack along the lines of this. If so, it would be a reason to go for portrait cards rather than landscape, and for having a little blank space or art at the bottom. If there are two or more racks then contrasting colours would be handy. Of course the rack itself is easy to source third party, but having the cards be portrait would have to be done now if it isn't too late already. |

I like this idea, a brainstorming deck -- these cards could have a bunch of those types of things on them all at once. Each card might have:

That sounds like a really useful deck concept to me -- much more so than a deck of swords and shields.
Plus, it occurs to me that you might have the beginnings of a solitaire campaign system if such a deck were designed carefully... |

Though it's a great opportunity to show a key TFT strength - "here's a full TFT character sheet on a notecard (or whatever)". Quote:
If you have an inkjet printer, you may be able to feed normal index cards through. And of course, printable business cards can be found at any office supply store. They're 3.5 x 2 inches, so they'd work fine for tiny character cards. Avery provides decent Word, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat templates. |

Many laser printers can handle light card just fine, up to about 150 lb., provided it uses the straight through path (most have a deflector to put the paper up on top, which can be opened for card or transparency printing), noting that most tray-loaders straight path is also the manual feed in. |
