At one point in the story, Tolkien also notes that there are still some few Elves left in our world, too, and that people occasionally see them.

I thought Númenor, Gondor, and Arnor were all chronicled by Tolkien. You should start with when the Ring was destroyed and backdate from there.

Ah! Okay I see your point in terms of the Biblical age. OTH the tale of Atlantis as told to Solon(or was it an ancestor to Solon?) which was quoted by Plato was supposed to be...let's see, let dig out GURPS Atalantis...9000 years previous to Solons visit in the 500's B.C. Thus making The fall of Atlantis 11000 years ago. So if Atlantis is based upon Numenor it would have to be at least that old. How long was it from the Fall of Numanor to the end of the Third Age?

The Fall of Numenor was close to the end of the Second Age. So a little over 3000 years before the end of the Third Age.

3042 years. If Atlantis fell 11,000 BCE, that would means the start of the Fourth Age would be 7,958 BCE.

But that does not leave room for the Woses or Púkel-men. If they were Neanderthals, they would have died off some 30,000 years ago, making the start of the Fourth Age before then.

Good point. I never really did understand who those guys were. The appendix didn't make it clear nor did the Silmarillion. Hell, the whole History of Men was confusing as hell in The Silmarillion.

Hans
The fall of Numenor I thought was the end of the Second Age?
