Default DFA Contingency Casting

Dear all,
just a clarification.
Do you confirm that a cleric using this ability still has to pay the energy points related to the spell casting?

Thanks
Giuseppe

Yes, the cleric (or holy warrior) must still pay the energy cost. All of the regular spell casting rules apply unless explicitly altered by the ability. Moreover, if you read the Design Notes for Francesco Zombani (Adventurers, p. 120), the intent is made clear in this passage: "Francesco can use Contingency Casting for any clerical spell at 18, but saves it for Bless, Pentagram, Remove Curse, or Sanctuary (otherwise out of reach of Power Investiture 4) – or a specialized cure like Stone to Flesh. His FP and ER give 20 energy points, making even things like Great Healing, Remove Curse, and large Banish and Pentagram castings viable." The three spells I marked in bold are not on his spell list and thus require Contingency Casting in combination with his large power reserve.

While the description of strategic contingency Casting Dalin described all well and good and strategic and . . . er . . . smart.

Contingency casting is fun no matter how dire the consequences. Who doesn't want to cast "coolness" to show off to the rival adventure party how long you can stay in the sauna? Sure, when the demon does show up later, you have to flee, but no one needs to know, right?

Note that Bless has no duration, and a cleric with a large power item and contingency casting can lay a Bless +2 on an ally when getting back to town at the end of any session where he did not otherwise use CC.
