Transhuman Space 3e vs. 4e
I'm thinking of running a Transhuman Space campaign in the near-future, and am curious about people's opinions of THS 3e vs. 4e. I've never run 3e, but since the bulk of the THS source material was written for 3e, I suspect some of it runs better without hacky conversions. I'm especially concerned about this issue for technology, which often changes significantly in the conversion process. OTOH maybe I could homebrew better conversions of things I'm concerned about in that area? Thoughts?

Changing Times and Shell Tech are pretty thorough, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Lots of weapons require some fudging on the conversion. Ditto vehicles. Spaceships 8 is only a rough approximation of 3e THS spaceships. Those are some of the big ones I've noticed.

Re: Transhuman Space 3e vs. 4e
Some things I like about the 3e THS spacecraft and space combat rules:
* Combat craft are built like tanks, as they realistically ought to be, i.e. armor is concentrated in the front to a degree not supported by the 4e spaceships rules. * Ramming is easier, at least against large craft, helping make AKVs viable. * Lasers hit automatically, with gunner rolls used to increase damage. Explains why unarmored missiles are *not* used. |

Oh, also: the rules for time and distance scaling are designed specifically for THS.

When I last ran it Spaceships didn't exist yet and I used the 3e rules with no problem.
