Is there a list of defunct golden age publisher that has gone to public domain?

If we look at the link below, which publishers are known to be in public domain?

You don't need to mention Nedor (Better/Standard), Centaur and Lev Geason, since we've already have done so.

Speaking of Timely:
Is the company Timely the same company as Marvel, or did Marvel buy Timely?

Dunno about the legal sense, but Timely is usually considered the same entity as Marvel (Atlas being an intermediate step from the former to the latter).

Got any plans for the pre-silverage characters?

If you with "plans" mean that if I plan to search for public domain silver age heroes, no I don't plan to do so... but, if I find some S. A. then I will off course use it.

Did you have anything in mind? :)

Silver Age? Not bloody likely! The Big Two hang onto their current copyrights like leeches. Locating PD characters requires legwork and snooping.

For a nice starting point, here's some goodies to help ...

http://home.insightbb.com/~GoldenYears/Library.html

Both websites haven't been updated for several years, but they are crammed with Old-Timey goodness.

Before I move on, I want to thank you all for the help up until now (and hopefully afterwards).

When I started this thread I hadn't heard of the Planetary and Tom Strong (especially the Terra Obscura spin-off), or rather I hadn't read them. Now that I at least have a passing familiarity of them I can say that even if they aren’t exactly what I was after, are they at least in the same “region”.

It would be really cool if we could take a bunch of public domain characters, rewrite them together, and drop them down in a collectively created world. Sort of like the Terra Obscura series.

I even have plans of cross-posting this thread over at Hero Games forum (and maybe even Guardians of Order) to create a form competition between the forums. Who does the coolest PD rewrite?

What do you guys think? Should we give it a try?

Since this topic is quite different from this thread's initial topic, I've created a new topic for the public domain world here:

A Public Domain Universe
