Can't speak to cost; my employer pays to send me. But I gather it's not super cheap unless you can split a room with a friend (or multiple friends).

Re: The best of the US conventions?
Cost depends on the type of room and distance from the convention center, of course, but $300 per night for your typical King or Double/Double in the room block in the close ring of downtown hotels is a safe estimate. Parking and other amenities extra.
To get a room block room nearby you must stay at least Thursday/Friday/Saturday and win the hotel lottery in January. Rooms outside the room block close to the convention center are generally scarce, but can be found. Sometimes people squeak in with loyalty rewards, but generally you end up paying quite a bit for a high-demand item. I've heard prices up to four times the block rate for the same hotel. Away from the convention center you get down to the $100 range, but you have to get in and back every day.
