Or of donkeys, which is why Moose doesn't look like a moose.

Although if AlexanderHowl is trying to make some distinction by his use of "caricature" then I don't agree (obviously, based on my previous post). They could be that, or they could be distortions, or degenerations, or the platonic forms...

I can think of a half a dozen reasons why the Madlands are connected to Milne, and GURPS Fantasy II doesn't give anything other than hints, that could support any of them.

Well, I never was into WtP much, so I didn't catch it.

Wow - never noticed this before. Puts a whole different spin on Madlands...

Bax Powu Kag (the Moose) - Eeyore
Bett Agwo (the Hare) - Rabbit
Bubzavav (the Bear) - Winnie the Pooh
Dopod Abwep (the Child) - Christopher Robin
Gakox Pezep (the Cougar) - Tigger
Kikavo Vo (Big Leaper) - Kanga
Kikavo Dat aittle Leaper) - Roo
Vuvuti (the Owl) - Owl
Zewa Zab (the Gopher) - Woozle
Zuutak (the Pig) - Piglet

Are there other Pooh-Madlands connections, like the regular "less" monsters, The Soulless magicians, or the other lands?

(and I love the comparison to 'Game of You' from Sandman...)

Yeah. Even though I really like the Madlands book (and have written many thoughts about it), I never noticed the Pooh connection until I saw it pointed out on this forum some years ago.

I once whipped up a pantheon modeled on Batman villains with of course the populace dreading the lord of the underworld to whom bats are sacred.

This thread has inspired me to come up with some of the more notable spirits/deities (a very fuzzy line between the two at the moment, culturally) for my New World natives for my Ranoc setting.

How do these look? (I'm sure you can guess where I'm drawing inspiration, but go ahead and take a shot at who was inspired by whom.)

The Hare = cunning trickster, no sense of direction
The Goose = Hare's friend/rival
The Hunter = Hare's and Goose's nemesis, a caution against overhunting
The Pheasant = laid-back lord of the roost
The Hawk = bird who preys on other birds
The Fast Landfowl = spirit of speed
The Coyote = lazy scavenger
The Black Jaguar = stealthy night hunter
The Songbird = a spirit warning of danger
The Outsider = spirit of destruction

Well, the Cherokee and related Deep South tribes always considered Hare the trickster spirit, as coyotes were fairly rare in that region. I just went gonzo with it.

Also, you're the first person I mentioned these to that made the connection!

Besides, they aren't the first deities I based off someone or something else. Consider Bri'ney, goddess of lust, envy, temptation, obsession, and all that fun stuff; main weapon is a spear.

Don't get me wrong, I love Looney Tunes, but I think that the names are off, especially if you want to relate to Native American folklore. The Goose should be the Duck, the Pheasant should be the Quail, the Fast Landbird should be the Turkey, the Black Jaguar should be the Cougar, and the Outsider should be the Wendigo. If you make those corrections, you could have a Native American inspired mythology based off the Looney Toons.
