So, we create this preview page -- https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...-pdf-challenge -- that those interested can follow. Which, as has been stated, adds to the overall length of the campaign.

If someone wants to support the project and help make it succeed, sharing that preview page with their friends and at their favorite blogs and forums does a lot.

GURPS players will not want to miss this campaign. It's a new approach for GURPS and has the potential to be the best GURPS deal of 2020.

Also as Douglas pointed out there are a lot of potential cases where even if you fund early you may not know what to put work in on (especially if there are a lot of choices) and it delays production and shipping.

Edited to add...
I follow SJG, Phil, Gaming Ballistic, and a few others on Kickstarter so I get the notices quickly plus of course from here. I missed a few in the early days but marketing is now much better, my worry is can I afford a surprise between paychecks? I only get paid once a month and after paying bills have to budget between emergency cash and luxury spending, such as games or other personal items. A short KS timed wrong can make me miss it. A long KS ties up the money long enough that I may forget about it (or something comes up) which happened once.
There are a lot of downsides to customers as well as creators with a long campaign!
So the right length seems tricky to match but shorter is better for most of us, especially if your not reaching that many new people or they dont have to save from multiple paychecks because of an expensive campaign.

I think the ideal timing is the first half of the month as most people pay a lot of bills (like housing) in the beginning so that is when the big budgeting happens.

Note I don't know, so I'm asking.

Does Kickstarter have a way to store a balance on their website, so as you have money, you can put money on it, to be used whenever a KS comes up you want to support?

Far as I can tell it cant even do that for one you already pledged.
Pledgng just lists you but your card is not charged till the day the project ends. So you may pledge then finally get charged a month later.

Really hyped about this one. I think the digital format is probably the way to go for GURPS kickstarters. Also we Europeans won't miss out on anything this time.

No. The site only works with credit cards. It _might_ be possible to use something like a Visa debit card, but I have never personally attempted that.

Most credit cards will let you have a negative balance. That is, if you had spare cash, you could send them a payment even if you owe nothing; the balance goes negative, and your next purchase brings it back up. (There's been a couple of times I've accidentally paid mine twice in the same month.)

I wouldn't recommend it, since you might as well just leave the money in a savings account. Why give the credit card company the float when you could earn interest -- minuscule though that will be? But if saving is hard, it's a way to stash money for your upcoming Kickstarter plans. If you're carrying a balance on your credit card, then paying that down is almost certainly one of the most effective places to put extra money.

You can also get prepaid credit cards, where you have to deposit money to them before you can spend it. Mostly useful for security, since those aren't really "credit" cards in the sense that you (or thieves) can borrow money you don't have that way. These don't go below zero. But the account numbers are credit card numbers, as opposed to debit card numbers, in case that makes any difference to some vendor's card handling system.

If you don't want to give your card number out to Kickstarter, many banks also have a single-use account or "virtual credit card", where they issue you a number that's an alias for your actual credit card. Those can be disposable (literally single use, good for one purchase only), or some companies will sell you a set of aliases so you can give each merchant a different card number; if one gets hacked, that information isn't useful anywhere else.

From the latest shirt update:

As we revealed last week, the GURPS team has prepared a dozen new GURPS PDFs that will be launching on Kickstarter next month. At the campaign's start, we will be offering a single PDF for $3. Over the course of the project, unlocking stretch goals will add more and more PDFs to that $3 reward. If the project does remarkably well, that $3 pledge will secure you a dozen different GURPS PDFs . . . so please don't miss this new project when it launches!

Can we unlock all twelve PDFs before the clock runs out?

Follow the GURPS 2020 PDF Challenge today!
