That sort of reminds me of a railroad parallel.

In the 1950s diesel builders EMD and ALCo each went with an electrical plug system for connecting multiple units together within lash-ups. So you could have three locomotives on the point, from either builder as required to run a train. Baldwin went with a pneumatic system, and thus, they were orphans who could only connect with other Baldwin locos. Baldwin was slowly made obsolete by not having standardized connections.

I'd think mating up a Mk. III or V and a Fencer hull might be along the same lines of difficulty.

My Golem is basically a Mk. III front mated to a Mk. IV rear. With a bit of fiddling, you can kit-bash the Ogre miniatures together fairly easily.

Edit: And my Nihon Samurai will be a Mk. V with a Doppelsoldner rear hull.

Likewise...I figured the III and III-B might share that kind of similarity by virtue of being variations on the same articulated chassis.

Though, and I'm afraid this might mean you won't want to be friends any more...I'm one of those weirdos who considers the EMD F-series to be more aesthetically pleasing than the ALCo PA series. The latter looks much better head-on, but from the side the longer nose looks out of place.

I'm with you on the F series. Gorgeous and a design triumph. Alco had clunky designs by comparison. In our local museum, we have the original FT demonstrator "A" unit, the "Diesel that did it".

Wait, there are people who think the EMD F units aren't the prettiest engines of the period?!?

I know, right? The PA gets all the love. It's a pretty engine, don't get me wrong, but the EMD F is prettier.

The part that crashes and burns if you shoot something 5 hexes in front of it! :D

Dangit, now I'm trawling Shapeways for Ogre-scale train miniatures...

There is historical precedent, in HMS Zubian.

This is a known . . . "gap" . . . in our miniature library.
