Default First Painted Minis

Well...mostly painted.

I got an airbrush for my birthday and have spent the last few weeks testing and trying out various paints and techniques. After some rather dismal failures, I went back to my tried and true Tamiya rattle can for priming and Tamiya paints, slightly thinned, for the base coating.

They aren't perfect, but they are a lot better than they were last week. And, with the airbrush, I could easily knock a few dozen minis in an hour. So, I'll be ready for the next battle.

I still have some detail work to do. I think I'm going to paint the MkIV bright blue with two red stripes on the front fenders.

The tanks were actually pretty tricky. The airbrush kept blowing them off my finger. I need to get some poster putty.

I like those! Simple is often better.

You're too hard on yourself! Those look fine, and truth be told your camo is better than mine.

If you're truly dissatisfied and want to go further, you'll be surprised how much they "come to life" if you do nothing more than grab a brush and pick out details...even if you skip the gun barrels entirely.

Hit the missile nose cones, throw a couple coats of a charcoal gray (or an extremely dark green) wash in between the drive wheels of the treads, and pick out the seams between plates and things with a forest green or a hunter green wash [I'd recommend against black, it'll add way too much contrast and look cartoony]

Now that I think about it, it'd be a pain to pull off but it might look better if you wash a few shades darker than the surrounding area. Use a dark green for the green areas, use a dark tan or brown for the tan areas. Green recessed on the tan areas might look funny.

I wouldn't use a green wash (or red, blue, etc.) unless I was going for a special effect. Use shades of brown or black, as they give better shadow effects.

Nice paint job!

Since you're in the Austin area, do you ever make it to Dragon's Lair? I run an Ogre game there about once a month.
