Gurps Magic: Draw Power
Using the Draw Power spell from Gurps Magic, p. 180, how much power would be available to a mage in a modern, U.S. home?
Or, say, from a typical car? Or, from a nuclear submarine? etc... I'm sure this has already been discussed, but I could not be bothered to wade beyond page 2 of the search results....

Re: Gurps Magic: Draw Power
Cars typically have around 120hp which is .089 MW. I imagine even the most powerful engines of cars you might find in a home won't hit a full MW.
The powerplants on nuclear subs seem to have anywhere from 75 to 500 MW of output. |

Re: Gurps Magic: Draw Power
Typical outlet
110v@15amps: 1650 watts (1.6kw) Household service box: 220v@100amps: 22,000 watts (22kw) Big household service box (farmhouse with garage): 220v@200 amps: 44,000 (44kw) Car (idle- 20 HP) 20HP == 15kw Car (150HP, engine significantly revved) 150HP == 110.32kw Diesel submarine (Can't find any power output stats for an atomic one) 880HP == 647.24kw |

Re: Gurps Magic: Draw Power
I always wondered how to get watts based on volts or amps. These forums are fun.

Household? Essentally none. 0.01 FP/sec from a standard outlet or 10 x that (still only 0.1) from the fuse box. Cars? Less than 1/sec from anything but the highest powered sports cars (c.475 HP). Nuclear sub? I don't know off-hand and the question of just what the output of a nuclear sub's reactor is might be hard to research. As a general hint:if your source isn't measured in Megawatts don't bother. You only get 2.77 FP/second from 1 MW. The most convenient source of useful magnitude was an "Industrial" power line at 250 eenrgy/sec.
