Barely competent officers who assume they can get through life on luck and charm are a hilarious thing when you're not really having to rely on their actions not actually ending up with you dead.

Note to self: take Incompetence(Navigation)

Mandatory joke: What's the difference between a PFC and a 2nd LT? The PFC has been promoted once.

I've continued running Mecha Against the Giants, and writing up the sessions within a week. So far, we're 5 sessions in. Skip this stuff if you don't like Actual Play, but read if you're interested in how GURPS scales to small mecha with autocannon and swords fighting 20' tall giants.

In session 6 of Mecha Against the Giants, a 30' tall giant and a 15' tall robot got into a wrestling match. Douglas Cole, author of Technical Grappling, answered some of my questions here http://gamingballistic.blogspot.com/...nt-robots.html

and I went through some other things that could happen here:

Being an overconfident martinet is really turning out to be a lot of fun.

I ponder how I'd run an Exalted like game in GURPS: by ignoring all of the Exalted background and mechanics and focusing on powerful characters doing amazing things.

That sounds extremely fun

Exalted sounds very cool, just not uhm, the actual playing of the game

Yes, it does. But what would do with it? That's his major question at the end, and I'd love to hear more about that. Perhaps it's the destruction of the Black Army, or the destruction of a terrible evil religion and it's Dark Gods. Maybe they defeat the evil tyrant Horned King and destroy his castle and install the White Lady on the throne of the once splendid kingdom. That's the sort of thing the epic heroes might be doing -- but are these things that DF templates can do without the superhero approach?

I attempt to answer safisher's question: What do Exalted inspired GURPS heroes do?

I've kept on pondering how to run an Exalted inspired game in GURPS. Two posts have come out of that:

First, some more thoughts on what I meant about "50 CP in social traits", as well as some ideas on how to handle magical items:
http://noschoolgrognard.blogspot.com...-items-in.html

Second, since I think a big aerial combat is almost certainly part of the game, I wrote up 4 sample flying mounts for high value characters:
http://noschoolgrognard.blogspot.com...pic-gurps.html

The second article is generally useful for people who powerful flying allies or foes in a DF style game.

I put together some sample characters for the Exalted like game. As part of that process, I decided that a minimum ST20 is ridiculous. It means that every character can trivially wear extremely heavy plate armor at minimum encumbrance. Increasing ST by 50% means that the weaker characters like wizards and shamans might not want to wear the heaviest armor.
