My wife wants to know can a wizard charm someone else's monster to force escape?

From the FAQ:

A. No. The card says this is something he may do instead of fighting a monster. It's not for interfering with others' fights, so the Wizard in question must be the munchkin who opened the door or is helping.
So you can't do it in somebody else's combat unless you are helping them in that combat. If you ARE helping them, though, I assume you could charm away the monster whether they wanted you to or not...

Yes, and the Treasure is still distributed as per the agreement both players made. The Wizard doesn't automatically get all Treasure from the Monster he charmed.

Very true, and another common misconception. You might still do it, though, if you wanted to deny them the level.
