How would you do this ?
In about to GM a campaign in a few hours, and theres something that I have been unable to figure out.
Its a high powered low tech campaing. One of the characters is a prince, son of the emperor of the worlds most powerfull nation by far. But he the youngest son, and he has 4 brothers and 2 sisters older than him, he was sent into a far away province to honor its lord and marry his daughter, and now hes returning to the capital with his bride for his marriage. What im having trouble figuring out is his status/entitlement to things. Hes not the favored son, but hes not the blacksheep either. Hes a prince but he doesnt have lands or wealth (as of now) and basically receives allowances from his brides father or his own father. Still he commands as much social respect as the emperor, and any slight towards him can be seen as a slight towards the emperor if he can paint it in the right light. I was thinking of something like Status 3 (Hes a lord without lands, can vote in instances where they do, arbitrate conflicts, and do many diplomatic and military functions, and in the absence of a lands lord, he could even provide justice in the name of the emperor) But has a courtesy rank 6, to reflect that people allow im in places and conversations he might now have participated if he was a mere landless lord I also gave him a very expensive Patron, government, but thats where I really dont know if im right or wrong, would it be better to create allys out of the people who would give him this sort of help ? |

I ended up just adding a ridiculous ammount of powerfull allies for all the people who would help him, and just left him without wealth, with status 3 and courtesy rank 6

How well off is he? If he has, say, Very Wealthy [30] that gives him one level of Status free, reducing the cost to [10]. Bill Stoddard |

So since that is how he will be in the campaign, charge him for it now. |
