Quick question about running away
If you have a card that lets you automatically succeed at running away, do you have to declare it before you roll, or can you wait until after (i.e., to see if you succeed first, so you can save the card for another time when you fail the roll)?
We've been playing you can roll first and only use it if you fail the roll, but we were not 100% certain this is correct. |

Re: Quick question about running away
It depends on the card, but most of the time you can't roll first. The card has to say it can be used after a failed escape attempt to work that way. An example of such a card that states this is Magic Lamp. If the card just says it allows automatic escape (like Instant Wall, discarding the Hireling and most other methods) then you must play it without rolling.

Re: Quick question about running away
The explicit text on Magic Lamp implies strongly that the usual case is "Automatic Run Away cards cannot be played after the roll," because otherwise there would be no need to specify differently.

Re: Quick question about running away
Thanks... We've been playing it wrong, then, and will adjust from here on out.
