How to fix a corrupted ,gca4 file
While working on a character using GCA4, the application crashed.
When I restart GCA all looks fine. If I open any other existing character files, all appears fine. When I try to open the character file I was working on, GCA starts to load it and then at some point just crashes and ends. No error message nothing. I spent a great deal of hours on this character so is there any way to repair the file? When I open the file in a text editor, there does nit appear to be anything that looks like corruption. Thanks for any help.

Re: How to fix a corrupted ,gca4 file
GCA doesn't work on your save file during general operation, it only touches it when saving it out. So the crash probably didn't corrupt the file, unless it crashed while saving it.
Anyway, in a case like this, the only way to fix it is manually. There's no tool available that can figure out and fix a character file. I'm guessing the most likely cause is a rogue unmatched parenthesis. Those sometimes get into data; they don't bother the internal data objects, but they do mess things up royally in converting the saved data back into the data objects. If you'd like to ZIP up the file and send it to me at gca4@misersoft.com I may be able to fix it for you. If you send it, please be sure to mention that it is followup to the forum thread about crashing GCA when loaded.
