After you solve the getting away problem comes the issue of "What does Infinity want from Yrth?" problem and not much comes to mind.

If you wanted magical knowledge you send your best female agent who can still pass for a college student to a pawn shop on Merlin-1. She takes in a handful of 14k gold jewelry which she explains is from 2 boyfriends ago and sells those for enough money to buy a second-hand copy of the Berkeley Grimoire and some first year textbooks on magical theory.

Getting magical knowledge form Yrth would _really_ be doing things the hard way.

Anybody from Infinity on Yrth is a research team (plus security) investigating Quantum Sargassos. They'd only be pretending to be White Star traders.

Whereupon she'll be arrested because Merlin-1 is aware of extra-planar intruders and keeps watch for them with divination.

One can't assume that all magical knowledge is equal anymore than scientific. Interdimensional sargassos would be worth studying on their own. Not having immediately obvious resources just means that the teams are underfunded.

The Divination spell doesn't work that way. It mostly doesn't work at all.

Not quite, divination doesn't work very well on Merlin-1 due to over use. But it's nothing that couldn't be overcome with preparation and the resources available to the CIA.

The factors that normally make divination hard on Merlin-1 won't apply in this case, it's not looking into the future and very few people casting

No; there is a constant background of dimensional visits due to backfires and other magical events. If the conjuration cops could catch them all, there wouldn't be any left to appear in the TECHNOMANCER vignettes.

Not quite, those events occur within the local pocket multiverse where as somebody coming across from homeline would be coming from outside of it.

Divination doesn't work very well _anywhere_. It's a spell that desiogned to get Plot Device Clues from the GM and that's pretty much it.

It _never_ gives you a print out saying "Infintiy infiltrator at pawn shop at the corner of Glitz & Glitter in Las Vegas at 9:07am MST today.". You'd be lucky to get a vision of a woman going in some shop somewhere and that's if you make your roll at the -9 penalty that covers just the continental US.

Nope, Diviniation is deliberately made to be the least reliable spell in Magic. No one should plan on any use of it except fro getting Clues.

Cite of this and the natives' ability to distinguish them, please?
