We got plastic notes here (Canada) last year.

Look and feel kind of weird (filled with transparent windows and holographic design elements, and of course rather colorful), but no problems otherwise, and seem to fit in the wallet fine.

They can't be nearly as bad of a vector for disease as the linen/paper we have.

In Australia we've been living in the monetary future since 1988.
The early notes could have the printing worn off, leaving a white surface but I haven't seen that happen for years. They hold a crease but are really pretty good.
