In the case of Mind Reading, I'd also add the cost of Long-Range (+50%) to Follow Up, to make up the difference between Malediction's using regular spell range penalties (-1 per yard) and Mind Reading's using range table penalties.

Or you could just make the follow-up modifier worth %150, as the second level of malediction uses the range table penalties... or %200 because the third level is long range penalties.

I would use the third level, as mind reading/probe/control all use LoS as their range.
