Re: So, what stats does a Super Soldier have?
Very Fit, if allowed, would be a good choice -- the +2 to HT rolls is nice, but the really important part is halving the rate of FP loss.

Re: So, what stats does a Super Soldier have?
I'd be bloody surprised if a super-soldier (especially if the definition includes high-end endurance) didn't have Very Fit.
What part of "super" do we not understand here? :-) Cheers, Ack |

3 Hours = 10800 seconds so you need an Averabe Move Speed of 1.96 y/s Move 4 x 0.8 (enc) X 1.2 (sprint) / 2 (paced run) = 1.92 y/s Move 5 x 0.8 (enc) X 1.2 (sprint) / 2 (paced run) = 2.4 y/s That is 180 checks that need to be maid for no FT lost. HT 10 is P(0.500) per check, using Binomial Distrbution. the Fit advatage give +1 to the checks . Very Fit, +2 to the Roll and 1/2 as meny checks. [FT lost at 1/2 rate] Note i affored to lose 6 FT points HT 10 , Expected number of Checks made 90/180 HT 10, Fit, Expected number of Checks made 112.5/180 HT 10, V Fit, Expected number of Checks made 66.69/90 now lets lets look at HT 11. (Can now afferd 7 fialed rolls) HT 11 Expected number of Checks made 112.5/180 HT 11 Fit Expected number of Checks made 133.38/180 HT 11 V Fit Expected number of Checks made 75.42/90 now lets lets look at HT 12. (Can now afferd 9 fialed rolls (as it has to be less than 1/3 no exactly hair sliting i know) HT 12 Expected number of Checks made 133.38/180 HT 12 Fit Expected number of Checks made 150.84/180 HT 12 Expected number of Checks made 81.63/90 (9 expected fails) as a Quick check now HT 12, with Either DX12 or +0.5 Basic speed, and Verry fit. Move 6 x 0.8 (enc) X 1.2 (sprint) / 2 (paced run) = 2.88 y/s Can coimpled the 12 mile run in 7333.3seconds (2 hrs, 2 min, 13.3 s) (62 checks) HT 12, Basic move 6, V fit Expected number of Checks made 56.234/62 (6 fials) Last edited by roguebfl; 03-04-2005 at 02:38 AM. |

We'd want to have at least HT 14 and Very Fit. We don't need a very high Basic Move, since Jim Bob only wants a super-soldier who can run ten miles in boots and full kit, not someone who can do it fast. So, Gunny JarHead: ST 15 IQ 10 DX 10 HT 14 Very Fit BM 6 (4 encumbered) BTW Rogue, did you take into account additional fatigue loss due to encumbrance? |

ISTR the BFT (Battle Fitness Test) was something like 12 miles in 2-1/2 hours with FSMO, followed by dumping the pack (but not webbing or weapons) and climbing a 6' wall, jumping a 10' ditch, climbing a 4m rope, and then having to put something like 4 out of 10 rounds into a man-sized target at fairly short range. The last requirement failed a lot of otherwise fit soldiers. So did the first.

Re: So, what stats does a Super Soldier have?
It is a depressing fact that a fully equped grunt is about as encumbered as a fully equiped knight. ESPECIALY if he's got a flak jacket/bulletproof west. (the front panell of a Class III+ body armour weighs more than my chain hauberk (which weighs inn at 8 kg, pluss the padding.)
Super soldiers would also have several levels of Strong Will, to represent the fact that they are willing to burn of all that FP... Increased FP is also more than appropriate. (If anybody should have this, these are the guys) ST 15 seems a bit exessive, though. most SF guys outside the US are not that beefy. (the sterotype, as far as I'we gathered, is that europeans walk a lot, while the americans build muscles.) Isn't there a skill for lifting/carrying things? This should be bought in generous measures, or included in Soldier, when it comes to carrying kit and backpacks. Our march test was 30 km, 15 kg pack, in less than 4 hours 30 minutes. To achieve this, one must move 8 km/hour. About half of my otherwise not very physical Field Arty unit passed this. I did it in 3 hours 53 minutes. Legends say that the record is less than 2 hours, set by one of the best cross country skiers back in the eighties... He was beat by the best cross country guy of the nineties, but he failed the requirement of beeing able to have performe duty the next day. (burned to many FP...) Basicaly, these are the guys that qualify for Very fit, extra FP, Strong will, High Pain Tolerance and all those other nice advantages. Most others, including most adventurers do not. IMHO a full blown SF character outside a purely military game would qualify as a Unusual background. (If you do, you can also allow unusualy high levels of Extra FP whitout loosing sleep...) Yours Elling |
