Default Question regarding Semi-Ablative DR and Armor Divisors

This situation came up in tonight's game, and I wasn't able to find a suitable answer

A character's mech has DR 500, semi-ablative. It is hit with blaster fire that do 5d6 (10), for a total damage of 35. In each case, the DR absorbed the blast.

Would the damage done to the DR be 3.5, rounded to 4, or 35?

4. If the DR was ablative it would do 35, but it is Semi-Ablative. Not sure what the armor divisor would do to influence this, nothing as for as I know.

Since 5d can't do 35 damage, you must be talking about a total of smaller damage, multiple attacks, right? Maybe it would help if you listed attack-by-attack damage, for examples' sake.

My impulse is to say that it only ablates by the amount of damage that is actually absorbed by the DR - four in this case, though rounding multiple hits would probably make that more. I have no rules basis for this, though.

TTBOMK, an armor divisor has no effect on the Ablative or Semi-Ablative limitations. If you rolled 35 points of damage, then that's what you use to determine how much DR is lost.

I dislike that thread. IMNSHO, most abbrevs can be easily Googled, so only the SJG Forum-specific ones need to be stickied. YMMV.

That it is a matter of taste, and somebody else may have a different opinion, without either being "right" or "wrong".
