Default Bio-Tech: Parahuman Genotypes

I've started working a bit on a new sci-fi setting* which will be quite bio-tech heavy, and was wondering if others here had made any biotech racial templates for genetically engineered humans (or animals) that they could share? (Tried searching the forum but didn't really find any.)

Übermenschen, supersoldiers, slave species, and human-animal hybrids or uplifts all welcome.

I'll post a couple I've made below.

*Generally TL 10 with TL 11 genetic engineering, and superscience FTL.

Surtr (TL 11)
200 points

The Surtrs (named after the fire giant of Norse myth) were created by defense contractors to serve earths armies in the colonies as specialist soldiers, carrying heavy weapons and operating within teams composed mostly of other, smaller, parahuman warriors.

Modifications to suppress fear responses and get rid of any reluctance to killing have also given them trouble empathising with others.

Loki (TL 11)
181 points

Nerves and brain cells extensively modified for faster signal transmission give this homo-superior design genius intelligence and incredible reflexes (with the unintended side effect of making it resistant to common neurotixins), but the enhanced neurons are prone to heightened and unnecessary pain signaling.

All Lokis suffer from a bit of cronic pain, but some Lokis can learn to overcome their low pain theshold, though this is equivalent to a normal human having an unusally high pain threshold.

In game it could simply be a feature of healing radiation damage. GMs often need to dictate what aging really is at some point when modifying animals so heavily. Few are going to agree fully.

It keeps them young longer, but this is partly a legal issue in the setting, and giving a genotype an extended lifespan has been done often enough that its no real trouble for the corporation.

-----------------------------
Applies in most 'Mainstream' Democratic Semi-Free-Market/Mixed-Economy Societies:

A few big corporations (and some Government and international agencies) have permission to create and raise genetically altered specialists. Corporations have mostly the same legal responisiblities for these children flesh-and-blood parents have for their kids and the 'sons & daughters' of the corporations are legally free to do what they want with their lives after they've reached their age of majority.

However, after being gengineered, raised, and educated inside the corp for their intended proffession and not knowing that much else, their 'choice' is to a large extent made for them by the people who've made them and the ones who choose to find their own way are well within margins.

As raising kids is expensive, corporations only bother with this for genotypes human parents are unlikely to choose for their own children.

All new genotypes have to be approved by an independent government agency before being put into production, with general principles prohibiting any alterations that seem directly abusive, this includes but is not limited to; shortened lifespans*, lowered intelligence without justification, sterility, and drug/poison susceptibility. The same government agency also assigns any new genotype its age of majority.

*As its the early 25th century and they've had genetic engineering for awhile, giving someone the natural lifespan of a homo-sapiens is consider cruel and unusual. The Gilgamesh from Bio-Tech is more or less the 'average' human.

Mahapurusa (TL 11)
230 points

Losely based on the "32 signs of a great man"* a quite recent homo-superior upgrade building on the old Gilgamesh design, the Mahapurusas started comming out just a bit over 30 years ago**, and are usually the children of elites.

Mahapurusas are quite tall and have bodies that are both gracefull and strong (without looking muscular), with long and finely shaped limbs, fingers, and toes. Quite a few also have a golden-hued body, curled black hair, and deep blue eyes.

**With their childhood lasting 50% longer than a homo-sapiens, the oldest Mahapurusas are more or less just out of their 'teens'.
