[DF] Blessings of the Beetle god
Hey everyone,
In my DF game I have an encounter where there will be a pool dedicated to a minor beetle deity. I plan to let my players find out that they can use the pool to gain powers or curses from the pool with a suitable occultism or theology roll. What sort of blessings/curses would be appropriately "bug" themed? I got the following but want more. Blessings: Sticky Feet (Clinging or bonus to Climbing) Chitin (+1 DR, but comes with one level of lower appearance) Feelers (Vibration Sense, but comes with vision penalties) Curses Scatter! (phobia: light or open spaces, but a really high Self Control level) Oooh Shiny! (compulsive behavior: touch fire sources) One of Us (Sense of Duty: insects) |

Re: [DF] Blessings of the Beetle god
Well, for some reason you make me think of dung beetles...
So you could go in for a curse of, Compulsive Behavior (Must make and roll about a giant ball of dung). XD Other sorts of curses could include becoming more insect-like, for example, various shades of decreased appearance toward insect-like features, or even simply Unnatural Features that cause them to stand out more in a crowd. Also while not beetle related directly, some insects like some butterflies (I think) can see into the ultra-violet area of the light spectrum (I think that would be hyperspectral vision?) perhaps with insect-like compound eyes for extra grossness. Oh and a limited power to puke forth a spray of beetles. Additionally perhaps something related to decreased food needs or cast-iron stomach. Gliding type (or just useless) insect wings is another possibility. Perhaps also a limited version of Frightens Animals or the like due to insect-like jerky movement. That's all I can think of at the moment. |

Re: [DF] Blessings of the Beetle god
I think you have to first define the deity. It is a beetle god, but what is it all about?
It is a house god? a war god? a god of eternal life and judgment? The beetle part should be less important than the god part. With that ready you should have a lot of ideas about blessings (in things the god have a forte) and curses (appropriate punishments for mortals that are not worthy or wronged the deity principles). Maybe even have a few blessings that are part curse. For example if a war god a character may end with a stronger will, fearless and improved leadership but also obsessed with vanquishing the god enemies, or obsessed with a dive quest to finding a lost relic, complete with visions of where the relic is or the last hero to use/carry the relic. |

Just as food for thought, the scarab was a symbol used in ancient Egyptian religion - you could do some research into that symbolism.

Along these lines, what powers does the beetle god have?
